Service Description

This workshop is available for any student celebrant, established celebrant or anyone else who has an interest in the ancient ritual of Handfasting. Throughout the middle ages (12th to the 17th Century) a handfasting was commonly performed to signify a couples intent to marry, it was seen as a contract and the couples engagement approximately one month prior to their marriage. In today society many couples use this symbol as a sign and connection to their heritage but also to show their connection to one another – a strong sterdy knot is tied after being entwined around the couples wrists/hands. Words or blessings may accompany this act. This workshop will showcase some examples of tying the knot and wording to be shared during a handfasting ceremony, we will share ideas of where to position this component within a ceremony and explain who might be involved in the process.
